Great idea! I’m going to attempt the same in PHP. Too bad Backpack doesn’t fully take advantage of Ajax (xmlhttp) and update the page dynamically. Why should you have to click the Reload button? C’mon, refreshing pages is so 2004.

Nice hack, thanks for posting this. I have Caller ID info sent to my phone via email, but this is a lot less intrusive.

mack, yes there are a lot of telemarketing calls in the US despite recent laws that have tried to prevent it. For more information on Caller ID, I’ll point you to the Wikipedia page that explains it in more detail than I ever could.

you can also get a voip provider like vonage which records all your incoming calls for you. i would imagine that they might add some rss feeds soon, but i haven’t seen that yet. they do e-mail you wav files of voicemails if you set your account that way, which is nice.
the added functionality of taking notes is great in backpack. combine xml output from vonage (on the wishlist) with the backpack integration and we are talking…

I love Backpack and inspired by Dave. So I decided to write an add-on that captures my voiceNotes and puts it into my Backpack page.
When I’m on the road and need to remember somthing I call it and leave my messages.
I made it so it knows up to 3 different numbers.
So if my wife only wants to leave me a message, she calls it from the house and leaves me a message.
Because it’s not calling my phone directly, it won’t interupt my cell phone, and I can get it without having to dial into my voicemail box from my cell phone.
The best part is that I’ve made it totally free!
