Running Logs for Google Maps Released

I’ve just released Running Logs for Google Maps - the software that uploads my runs from my GPS watch and displays my running logs on my blog.

Several people have asked about them over the past few months, so I thought I’d package it up and make it available for download.

Features:

  • Automatically exports data from your watch and uploads to your site
  • Runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
  • Displays mile markers along with the pace per mile for each mile on your route
  • Can display a different color for miles faster than a certain threshold
  • Identifies halfway mark by coloring first half and last half in different colors
  • Can be scheduled to run automatically
  • Recognizes duplicate data and will only upload new runs
  • Creates KML files for each run for viewing in Google Earth
  • Creates an RSS feed of your most recent runs
  • The web site template is completely customizable and can be adapted to the look and feel of your site or blog
  • Uses Ajax with no server side processing required

    hey,

    does it only work on input from these watches or can it take track data from normal GPS receivers?

    You’d think that with gpsbabel it would be compatible with more devices.

    Volcane, yes it should be able to work with normal GPS receivers since GPSBabel can talk to so many different devices.

    Hi Dave,

    Seems like a pretty sweet setup… I’m trying to incorporate it into a site and not having much luck… followed your instructions and I’m getting perl errors:

    Can’t locate Template.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/lib C:/Perl/site/lib .) at grunninglogs.pl line 2.
    BEGIN failed–compilation aborted at grunninglogs.pl line 2.

    thought I followed your instructions to a t, but I know pretty much nothing about perl so I’m kind of lost… Thanks for any help you’re willing to provide, I understand though if you are too busy… Definitely like what you’ve done…

    I am in the market for new device for Heart Rate and distance monitoring. Can you recommend one? Do you have any experience with the SDMs versus the GPSs. Any help here would be appreciated.

    I’m having the exact same problem as trigdon on Feb 16, 2006. What was the solution? I’ve installed Perl and I’m not seeing the template.pm in any folder.

    Hi,

    I am interested in your app for possible use on my site. Does your app manage to calculate the pace/speed data correctly? That was one of the issues the guys at ParticleTree had with their implementation.

    Looking at your run from 2008-05-10 you are doing:

    17.53 miles 3:18.6 min/mile 57 mins 59 secs

    This would make more sense if it was a bike ride.
